The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, has declared that incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde of the state has completely destroyed the local government system in the pace setter state.
The Federal lawmaker, however, urged the people of the state to vote out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates that for in this month”s council election in Oyo State.
He accused the PDP of undermining the local government system and perpetuating poverty among its populace in Oyo state.
Speaking on Saturday at the official chairmanship/councilorship campaign flag-off held at Eruwa Town Hall, Eruwa, in Ibarapa East Local Government amidst an uncontrollable crowd, the APC chieftain stressed that the present administration in the state has brought more hardship to the people at the grassroots by crippling the local government administration and impoverishing the people.
In a statement by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and made available to journalists, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Oseni noted that despite the huge regular monthly allocation being shared to the local governments and interventions from the federal government to aid developments as well as alleviate the sufferings of the people at the grassroots, the Oyo State led-PDP government has conditioned our people to poverty and underdevelopment.
“It is a well-established fact that the local government, as the third tier of government, is the most accessible to the people. Regrettably, the current management of our councils across the 33 LGAs in Oyo State has not only failed in delivering social services but has also been severely hampered by the actions of the PDP government. It is evident that significant developmental strides at the grassroots level have been lacking since the commencement of this PDP administration nearly five years ago.
“Our local councils in the state have failed to adequately serve the grassroots due to a lack of political will, fear of God, experience, integrity, transparency, and accountability. These deficiencies have remained significant barriers to effective governance and have contributed to the impoverishment of the grassroots, as one cannot provide what one does not possess”, the lawmaker lamented.
Oseni said the present configuration of the local governments has exposed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Oyo State government as deliberately exploiting people’s lack of access to basic education, good roads, health facilities, youth development, women empowerment, good water supply, among others.
The lawmaker, who noted that, although the situation is dire, it is not hopeless as it can be corrected by voting in the right people with the political will, fear of God, experience in the forthcoming council polls scheduled for April 27th, 2024.
Oseni, however, urged the electorate to mobilise themselves and come out en masse to cast their votes for all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for total liberation.
