Controversy generated by the efforts of the Oyo State government to fill the vacant stool of Alakufo in Ido Local Government Area of the state is yet to be resolved.
Two friends, Alhaji (Chief) Lamidi Taoreed Ayankojo Ololade Adefisoye and Alhaji Olajide Abideen Abimbola (a.k.a Eji Ogbe) are at logger heads over who is to occupy the throne.
Chief Ololade Adefisoye and Eji-Ogbe, a chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, have been good friends for many years until the struggle for the Alakufo stool began.
Chief Ayankojo Ololade Adefisoye emerged as
the Alakufo – designate in October, 2023 through a letter from the Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter titled : “RE: Filling of Vacant Stool of Baale Akufo”.
The letter with reference no.: CB.141/152/40/92A, reads: “I wish to refer to the above subject and inform you with pleasure that His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has graciously approved your appointment as the new Baale of Akufo, in Ido Local Government Area with effect from 20th October, 2023”.
Two months later, on 18th of December, 2023, Alhaji Olajide Abideen Abimbola (a.k.a Eji Ogbe), was installed as Alakufo by the late Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Lekan Balogun.
Eji-Ogbe went ahead to challenge the decision of Governor Seyi Makinde of the state to appoint Chief Adefisoye as the Alakufo – designate, in a court case still pending before the State High Court 6, sitting in Ibadan.
Also joined in the case are: the Attorney – General and Commissioner of Justice, Oyo State; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Oyo State; Chairman, Ido Local Government Area; Oyo State Commissioner of Police and Chief Lamidi Taoreed Ayankojo Adefisoye.
However, the Alakufo -designate over the weekend warned Eji-Ogbe to stop parading himself as the Alakufo of Akufo, because the stool was not vacant as at November, 2023, when he “manipulated his way to the late Olubadan’s palace to be installed”.
Chief Ololade Adefisoye urged Eji Ogbe to wait for the outcome of the case he himself instituted and still pending before Oyo State High Court 6.
His words: “There is a due process to appoint a part two Oba in Oyo State. It is the State government that appoints part two Obas. I am the one recognised by the Oyo State government. I am the one with document from the state government”.
“Alhaji Abideen Abimbola had gone to court to challenge Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Government. He should patiently wait for the outcome of his legal action”.
