New executives of the South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) were on Thursday elected during a meeting of the association held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
During the meeting, former Southwest Bureau Chief of the Nation newspapers, Mr. Bisi Oladele and Mr. Dapo Falade emerged as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the guild respectively.
Other executives elected are; Taiwo Oluwadamilare (Secretary), Joseph Okuwofu (Assistant Secretary), Temi Aboderin (Financial Secretary) and Remi Oladoye (Public Relations Officer).
The process was coordinated by Tunde Busari, who urged the new leadership to uphold the trust placed in them and work towards advancing the association’s mission.
Speaking at the event, the immediate past chairman, Olayinka Agboola, assured the new executives of his continued support and guidance, emphasising that his doors remain open for advice and collaboration.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Bisi Oladele, expressed gratitude to members for their confidence in the new leadership.
“We are very conscious of how challenging the journey has been to this stage. Thank you for trusting us with your votes to lead this association. We acknowledge the challenges SWEGOP faces, but with the support of the last executives and our members, we are confident in achieving our goals,” he said.
The new chairman commended Olayinka Agboola for his remarkable contributions to the guild over the past nine years. He lauded Agboola for expanding SWEGOP’s membership as well as his dedication to strengthening the association.
He further revealed that the House has been dissolved, and there will be a fresh membership registration, along with a new set of rules and regulations for engagement and membership in SWEGOP.
The new chairman, therefore, called for the support and collaboration of all members to move the association forward.
